Why Buy a Boiling Water Tap?

People pay extra for faster trains, or more comfortable seats on planes. Similarly, an instant boiling hot water tap is a luxurious item offering time saving and better user experience. Here is why we think it is worth the higher price tag.

1. Instant hot water

No more waiting around for water to boil in a kettle or the pasta pan, or even for water to be filtered using a filter jug. You simply fill your cup or pan directly from the hot water tap.

It doesn’t mean that you no longer need to change the filter, but instead of once a month, you change it about once every 6-8 months depending on the make of the tap and the softness/hardness of the water in your area.

2. Streamlined worktops

These taps replace traditional kitchen taps, kettles and filtered water jugs, saving precious worktop space in a small kitchen, or a minimalist contemporary kitchen.

One thing to note though, you would need storage space near the tap for the tank and the filter unit and also provide plumbing and electrics. This may be easier to overcome when designing a new kitchen but less straightforward in an existing one.

Appliance maintenance 

Regardless of the brand, keeping your hot water tap in perfect condition requires regular maintenance and servicing. If you’re in a hard water area, you may need to invest in more filters to prevent a limescale build up. Otherwise your tap can get scaly and cause blockages which you may then need to treat with a descale kit to rid your tap of built up limescale.

Safety for family homes

It is understandable to be concerned about little ones. The appliance is accessible as a standard tap. Make sure you buy a child-friendly tap: the sides of these taps don’t get hot and the child-proof functionality means kids can’t turn them on by mistake.

It is debateable whether it is more dangerous than kettles. According to figures released for National Burns Awareness Day in 2018, there are 3000 serious scalds to children every single year from kettles and kettle related incidents. As such, user’s and children's safety have been at the forefront of manufacturers’ designs since the appliance was conceived.

Designs considerations include additional steps to activate and insulated spout. Additionally, unlike a kettle which can be knocked over, the tap is fixed to the kitchen worktop. With a little education, a hot water tap could be viewed as a safer alternative.
